Keith & Crystal Schaper

Sharing Christ in Guatemala

The Schaper family are currently serving as missionaries with EFM in Jalapa, Guatemala. They oversee Hope Evangelical Bilingual Academy with 82 students enrolled grades PreK through 6th grade.

Born in Independence, Kansas, Crystal was raised as a Missionary Kid (MK) in Papua New Guinea from the time she was 2 until she was almost 17. When she was 5, she gave her heart to Jesus, and when she was 7 years old, God sanctified her. Being a MK, she always had a love for missions. When she was 16 years old, God spoke to her, asking if she would be willing to commit her entire life to His ministry.

“I didn’t know what all that would include, but my answer was “YES!” It’s been a privilege working for God in many different ways and now overseas missions work.” Her primary role now is supporting Keith and training their five children for God.

Keith was born in Coffeyville, KS. He was 17 when God saved him at Ochelata Youth Camp in Oklahoma, and he was sanctified a few months later during a local revival. He received a call to ministry in Mesa, Arizona during his senior year in high school. “At that time I had no idea what that would mean or where it would lead,” he says, “God’s faithfulness has been ever present during all the twists and turns that followed, but saying “yes” to God has been rewarding and exciting.”

Keith earned a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Labette Community College in 2002 and a degree in Pastoral Ministry from Hobe Sound Bible College in 2005. Crystal also completed a degree to become a Licensed Practical Nurse from Labette Community College in 2002. In the past, Keith has served as the Principal of Troy Holiness School from 2005-2014, led Children’s ministry during his time there, and served as assistant director at Ochelata Youth Camp. Crystal’s past experience includes helping her parents with ministry in Papua New Guinea, teaching Sunday school classes, and leading Children’s ministry.

They currently have five children: Kristyn, Owen, Megan, Jeren, and Ashlyn.
